◎简　　介

　　位于滋贺县小波市的市民医院，当地医疗技术比较落后，虽然有京叶医大的团队驻扎坐镇，但是这些医生视前途比病人更重，对于稍有危险的手术推诿塞责，致令延误了几多患者治愈的良机。平成元年（1989年），从匹兹堡学成回国的外科医师当麻铁彦（堤真一 饰）受邀来至市民医院，担当第二外科室的主任。当麻将病人的生命放在首要位置，拼尽全力做好每一次手术。他的高尚医德赢得了病患和团队的钦佩，却令高傲的京叶医大心生忌恨。某日，当麻挑战当时日本法律尚未允许的脑死肝移植手术，所有的矛盾都被推倒浪尖上来……
