　　中沢啓治の代表作『はだしのゲン』の劇場アニメ化、第二弾。
　　終戦から3年。小学4年生になったゲンは、妹の友子、戦災孤児で弟分の隆太たちとともに母親を助けて懸命に生きていた。戦争?原爆の爪痕がまざまざと残りながらも、少しずつ復興の兆しが見える広島の地。だがそんな中、原爆による放射能は、ゲンの母?君江の肉体を今もひそかに蝕んでいた。
　　原爆投下の衝撃的な悲劇を描いた第一作に対し、戦後の日常を語る本作。だが終戦から数年が経った劇中の現在も、決して戦争や原爆が過去のものではない事実を丁寧に語る。テーマは終戦後の厳しい生活の中で、それでも確固と紡がれる親子の絆、そして友情。第一作とあわせて鑑賞したい、永遠の名作である。
