　　影片讲述了攀登珠穆朗玛峰的伟大先驱乔治·马洛里（George Mallory）。当被问到“你为什么要攀登Everest山？”时，George Mallory回答，“因为山在那里。”这句话遂传扬开来，成为登山者的名言。不过，1924年6月，Mallory和他的登山搭档Sandy Irvine到达了离峰顶仅有几百码的地方，随后他们遭遇了暴风雪。直到75年后，登山运动员Conrad Anker发现了他们冰冻的尸体。
1924年，被誉为“二十世纪最成功的登山者之一”的乔治·马洛里与登山新手安德鲁·欧文组队，尝试从珠穆朗玛峰的北坡登顶，最终一去不复返，而有关两人 死前是否成功登顶的争议也成为人类登山史上著名的“马欧之谜”。1999年，美国著名登山家康拉德·安柯（Conrad Anker）在珠峰的“死亡地带”发现了马洛里的遗体。从此以后，康拉德·安柯的生活便与马洛里的故事紧紧地联系在了一起。
