　　在电影档案馆工作的大卫，妻子爱丽丝与人外遇。一天晚上，大卫循着直觉来到运河边的一座房子，发现妻子与外遇对象双双毙命血泊之中，还有个人正在监视自己。这个人，与他在档案馆资料视频中看到的，一宗1902年谋杀案的凶徒一模一样。 

　　大卫开始怀疑百多年前的恶鬼潜伏在自己家中，杀害了自己的妻子。可警方和其他人却都怀疑大卫才是杀妻的真凶，警方还在运河里找到了沾有大卫指纹的凶器。大卫一心找出宅中恶鬼犯案的证据，渐渐陷入疯癫……
